Your Questions Answered

We have gathered the questions we hear most often from homeowners considering solar and battery storage for their wellness setups. If you have a question that is not answered here, call us on 0141 230 0198 or use our contact page — we are happy to help.

Can solar panels really power a home sauna in Scotland?
Yes. Modern solar PV panels generate electricity from daylight, not just direct sunshine, so they work on overcast days — which Scotland has plenty of. The key is pairing panels with battery storage so that energy generated during the day is stored and available when you want your sauna session, typically in the evening. A correctly sized system captures enough during Scotland's long summer daylight hours to run a sauna on stored solar after dark.
How much solar and battery capacity do I need for a hot tub?
It depends on your hot tub size, heater wattage, how often you use it, and your roof. A hot tub heater typically draws 3-6kW and runs intermittently to maintain temperature. We size both the solar array and battery together during your no-obligation survey, based on your actual equipment and usage. See our Costs & Sizing guide for typical demand ranges.
Do you sell saunas, hot tubs or cold plunges?
No. We supply and arrange installation of solar PV panels and battery storage only. The wellness equipment — sauna, hot tub, cold plunge or garden cabin — is the use case your solar and battery system is designed to power. You source the equipment yourself or through a specialist supplier, and we design the energy system to run it.
What is 0% VAT on solar panels and batteries?
There is 0% VAT on solar panels and battery storage for domestic installations until 31 March 2027. This means the price you pay for your installation does not include VAT during this period. Your quote reflects the current VAT position at the time of installation.
Is the survey and quote really no-obligation?
Yes, completely. The survey is arranged at no charge, and the written quote you receive afterwards carries no obligation to proceed. You decide in your own time whether to go ahead. There is no pressure and no commitment at any stage before you choose to proceed.
Who installs the system?
We install through MCS-certified partners. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is the recognised quality standard for renewable technology installations in the UK. Your installation is carried out to MCS standards by certified installers.
Is finance available?
Loans are available, subject to status. We can discuss finance options after your survey and quote. We do not quote specific loan amounts or terms before the system is designed and priced.
How long does installation take?
A typical residential solar PV and battery installation takes 1-2 days, depending on system size and complexity. Most of the work is on the roof and at the electrical consumer unit. The installer discusses timing and access with you beforehand.
Can I add battery storage to my existing solar panels?
Yes. If you already have solar PV installed, we can assess adding battery storage so you can store surplus generation for your sauna, hot tub or cold plunge. The survey covers compatibility with your existing system, available capacity and the best battery solution.
What happens to surplus solar energy?
Surplus energy from your panels first charges your battery. Once the battery is full, any further surplus can either go to the grid (if your setup supports export) or to an immersion diverter if you have one. The system manages this automatically — you do not need to do anything.
Do solar panels work in winter in Scotland?
Yes, solar panels generate electricity in winter, though output is lower due to shorter days and lower sun angle. December in Scotland sees around 6-7 hours of daylight. This is why battery storage and correct system sizing matter — you need to capture and store surplus from long summer days to offset shorter winter generation. Your system is designed with the full year in mind.
What areas of Scotland do you cover?
We arrange surveys and quotes across mainland Scotland from the Borders to the Highlands, plus accessible islands including Arran, Bute, Mull, Skye and the Orkney mainland. See our Areas Covered page for the full list of regions, or call us on 0141 230 0198 to check your postcode.
Can I run a cold plunge on solar?
Yes. Cold plunge chillers have a relatively low continuous power draw (typically 0.3-1kW) and run to maintain water temperature rather than heating it up in one burst. This makes them a good fit for solar, particularly during daytime when the chiller can run directly from panel generation.
What if my roof is not south-facing?
South-facing roofs are ideal, but east-west arrays also work well. In fact, an east-west array spreads generation across the day rather than peaking at midday, which can suit evening wellness sessions better when paired with a battery. The survey assesses your specific roof orientation and shading.
How do I get started?
Use our quote form or call us on 0141 230 0198. Tell us your postcode and what you want to power — sauna, hot tub, cold plunge or a combination. We will arrange a no-obligation survey and send you a tailored quote. You decide whether to proceed.
